Mötley Crüe Guitarist’s Lawsuit Says He Was Kicked Out

Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars has filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates, accusing them of forcing him out of the band and keeping him from all future profits. The alleged cut-off occurred after Mars announced he’d be retiring from touring due to a chronic inflammatory disease.

The disease in question is Ankylosing spondylitis. My wife has it and it’s a bitch. Seriously though, he carried that band for decades.

We Finally Know the Case Against Trump, and It Is Strong

From the article:

Whatever happens next, one thing is clear: Mr. Trump cannot persuasively argue he is being singled out for some unprecedented theory of prosecution. He is being treated as any other New Yorker would be with similar evidence against him.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse - Official Trailer #2

Here’s official trailer #2 for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.

This will be the movie that gets me to go to an actual theater to see it.

A Return to the Presence of Love

What a wonderful post from Chaz Ebert.

Let's Go For A Walk

4k POV walks , no commentary. Tokyo. London. New York. Paris. Sydney. Mumbai. Hong Kong. Bangkok. Rome. Vienna. Seoul. Buenos Aires. Santiago. Montreal. Cairo. Marrakech. Nairobi.

I haven’t watched them all, but I love putting them on the TV and kind of forgetting it’s on and then glance up from reading a book or playing with the dog and seeing something completely different without any context.

Escape

Nicholas Bate:

Into a book.

A novel of a different world.

An explanation of something new.

Escape from the busyness for a while.

Good advice.

GPT-4 is not AI. Stop calling it that.

Kevin Drum:

For all the good it will do, I would like to remind everyone yet again that GPT-4 is not artificial intelligence. Neither is anything else. AI, by any reasonable definition, doesn't exist yet.

GPT-4 is amazing. It will have a huge impact on the world. It’s definitely on the road to AI, the same way the Model T was on the road to a Ferrari. But it’s still not AI. Not yet.

YET.

Ron DeSantis Got Played by Disney

Disney did all of this out in the open after published notices and at public hearings. The Florida GOP is sloppy and incompetent.

The people who run Disney are pretty smart, and Ron DeSantis seems pretty dumb, so I’m not surprised at how this turned out.

Welcome to Brandon Sanderson's Fantasy Empire

I have never read a Sanderson book, but I admire what he’s accomplished. The piece also casually mentions that he wrote twelve novels before one sold, which I think is something worth pointing out: Most “first novels” aren’t, and persistence is important to getting to that first book.

Also, underground lair. Want.

Giving Up the Ghostwriter

Not much of a ghost if she sucked this bad at stealing passages for books. Also, I can’t believe the publishers of these books did not find this plagiarism earlier.

Flowful

Flowful is a wonderful site that plays procedurally generated (everlasting) ambient music in your browser while you work, surf the web, or simply listen. There’s no need to skip tracks because the sounds are infinitely unique. You can choose from a selection of free tracks to play every week, or you can subscribe for a wider range of sounds. The sounds are customizable so that you can find the right sounds for your taste. Choose from binaural beats, classical, atmospheric, and more.

This site has helped me focus all morning. I could always use more tools to help me focus.

Brie Larson Refuses to Stick to Hollywood’s Script

I’ve always found her to be super interesting.

KISS Biopic Chronicling Band’s Early Years Coming to Netflix in 2024

Apparently, there’s a KISS biopic on the horizon.

If it’s as good as the silly Motley Crue one, it should do well and probably bump up the band, especially in 2024, when I expect them to do close to nothing until a likely Vegas residency in 2025 or 2026.

Everything is a Remix

Kirby Ferguson has released the final and “definitive” full-length version of his fantastic Everything is a Remix video series.

Memes are remixing. You take a photo, you repurpose it, then someone else tries it, then there’s a flood of everyone trying out combinations, including remixing other memes.

When you take something old and use it in something new, that’s remixing. It might just seem like just copying, but it’s actually something much more. Remixing can empower you be more creative.

Remixing allows us to make music without playing instruments, to create software without coding, to create bigger and more complex ideas out of smaller and simpler ideas.

You don’t need expensive tools to remix, you don’t need a distributor, you don’t even need skills or… good judgment. Everybody can remix and everybody does.

From our songs and games and movies and memes, to how we train computers to create, to the way we sense of reality, to the evolution of life itself, everything is definitely a remix.

Amazing work.

Focus

Rebecca Toh:

Our brain craves focus.

When it is focused, it is happy, still, powerful.

But a focused brain is a rarity in today’s world.

What do you do to keep your brain focused?

I try, and I try to remain focused, but my brain likes to jump around.

Bono and The Edge: Tiny Desk Concert

The most recognizable half of U2 made the trip to the NPR offices to perform a Tiny Desk Concert recently. Accompanied by the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Choir, the pair sang four songs from their 2000 album All That You Can’t Leave Behind, including Beautiful Day.

I’m not a huge U2 fan, but this is wonderful.

The Nuno Bettencourt Solo Everyone is Talking About

Rick Beato reviews Nuno Bettencourt’s INSANE solo from Extreme’s new single “Rise.”

It’s incredible. The best solo I’ve heard in a long, long time.

Ben Affleck on ‘Air,’ New CEO Gig and Those Memes: “I Am Who I Am”

Lexy Perez writes a profile of Ben Affleck. It’s not bad.

So if DC came to you now and said, “Do you want to direct something?”

I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not. I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that. I’m not interested in that.

I’m not 100% convinced he won’t direct a movie in the new Gunn-led DC movie universe, but then again he might not.
